Malaysia Set To Stage Biggest Visual Effects, Animatronics & Animation Event in Asia

Kuala Lumpur -- Malaysia confirmed its place on the visual effects frontier when it was announced that Asia's largest visual effects and animation event will be staged here early next year.

The event, VFX ASIA2006 was conceived to bring the visual effects, animatronics and animation experts from all over the world to showcase their services and products to visitors from the Asia-Pacific region. The event will provide the strategic opportunity for participants to forge new partnerships, offshoring and international market expansion.

Filem Senter Sdn Bhd, the organizer of the event, will be inviting industry leaders from the US, Canada, Europe, Australia and Japan to take part in a major way.

VFX ASIA2006 Chairman Senator Datuk Jins Shamsudin said: "The potential for visual effects is tremendous. Already, they are being used in Hong Kong and Korean movies."

Malaysian Minister of Information, Dato' Sri Abdul Kadir Bin Haji Sheikh Fadzir, in a letter to the organizer, praised Datuk Jins and his team "on your tireless effort to make this event a success and make Malaysia's presence felt in this important industry."

The Minister added: "The Ministry of Information Malaysia is in full support of this event and is confident that VFX Asia 2006 will be a success. We also believe the exhibition will give an opportunity for local industry players a chance to expose and share knowledge with other experts participating in the Conference."

"The industry in Asia has been waiting for an event like this to happen. This event will be able to cater to the needs of a majority of the people involved in the media and entertainment industries in the Asia-Pacific region and for many who may never have a chance to travel to the US or Europe to attend similar events, due to cost and time constrains" said Datuk Jins.

According to the Price WaterhouseCoopers' newly released Global Entertainment and Media Outlook: 2005-2009: Asia Pacific will remain the fastest growing region during the next five years, led by explosive growth in China, which will overtake Japan as the region's biggest market by 2008.

PWC added the "global entertainment and media industry is in its strongest position since 2000 and will increase at a 7.3 per cent CAGR to US$1.8 trillion in 2009".

The event, to be held from March 22 to 25, 2006 at the newly-open Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur, is expected to attract more than 200 international exhibitors and 14,000 trade visitors from Asia.

VFX ASIA2006 is fully supported by the Malaysian Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Information, Malaysia and the Ministry of Culture, Arts & Heritage, Malaysia.
